Christmas at Cathie's

Tuesday night's is sewing night with the St Brigid's ladies.  At some point we have all had children at St Brigid's or worked there.  Lou's son Jedd is in grade 6 and this year is the end of 13 years of education for her children at the school.  It will be a sad farewell to a great school.  Tuesday night sewing, however, will continue.
 Each year for Christmas Cathie invites us to her home which is always beautifully decorated.  Tonight was no exception. 

Cathie's tree is different every year. 

This years decorations include dried oranges with cinnamon & glitter.

 

We share a lovely "high tea" supper

and make something wonderful. This year we made these:

 They were easy to make and started with a couple of old books

a little bit of cutting

 some glue and glitter

and this is what you get....

They are fantastic.  Can't wait to make some more....

Ooopps it's been a while!

Well hope everyone is happy and well, it's been a while!

Where did that time go? Maybe because it's nearly the silly season.

So thought we'd show you a few special Christmas Treasures.

This little quilt was made as a special gift from our dear friend Cheryl as a mini quilt swap.

And the little wreath is all beads!! Yes tiny little beads and was a gift from our other dear friend Veronique as a Christmas gift swap. They are both so special they stay up all year round. to cute to go away.

This very cute Vintage Advent Calender arrived yesterday for Lisa's boys from their Nan and Pa. Every year they get a new family Christmas gift.

The cute partridge in a pear tree was also a gift from special friend Jacinta.

Lots of gifts!!!

Hope you are all a little more organised for the up coming festivities than we are.

1930's Hexagon Quilt

There's something about the 30's that we love.

The fabric's the colours of gelati, the furniture painted white and the gorgeous Johnson dinner ware!!

The classic 30's quilt would have to be hexagon's especially Grandmothers Flower Garden.

This quilt is all diamond hexagon's!!!

This quilt is hand pieced and machine quilted with this very cool circle pattern which is the centre photo below. Even all the white in between are hexagon's. It sure is alot of hexagons!!

They measure 7/8ths.

Some of the fabrics are a little worn and loved but most are in really great condition.

It has been washed alot, it has that very soft feeling of being a much loved quilt.

It was not trimmed straight either and it's binding curves around each hexagon!! See the first photo.

 That would be a huge job especially for us "binding lovers".

Not sure what it is about binding.....it's that final stage but one many of us put off. And there's nothing worse when we can't find our binding that's been put in that really safe place.
